Fireplace with ceramic door
Fireplaces can bring so much joy and comfort to homes, but, when not in use, chimneys are a large air-exchange gap that cause unwanted heat loss.
This fireplace we built has an energy-saving ceramic glass door that seals tightly with small rare earth magnets. An operable external air vent in the firebox feeds the fire with outside air, rather than robbing the tightly sealed house of oxygen.
The flue operates smoothly because we handcrafted the damper with bronze bushings. We milled the handle to elegantly fit a finger. This design is an improvement upon traditional corner kiva fireplaces design that requires the user to reach inside the sooty firebox to open or close the flue.
