Big Stuff on the Jobsite

An inch of clearance

We managed to get a large crane into the job. The driver was excellent. He had plenty of clearance (about an inch on either side) and managed to back though the garage and entry hall into the center of the house so that his 100′ reach would be able to set our steel beams on the far side.

We set 138′ of 8″x8″x 3/8″ square tube in a day (three of us including the operator). We had one 48′ beam that was straight but all the rest were rolled in Chicago. All of the curves lined up perfectly on the steel posts we had set the week before. I had been going over those details in my head and on paper for months.
