A Desk of One’s Own
This studio and its built-in furniture were designed by Green Star Builders in collaboration with the soft spoken homeowner, who needed a separate space to take a contemplative pause. It is a physical manifestation of a dreaming place.
Thoreau’s house on Walden Pond contained a “withdrawing room” built for similar purposes.
“You want room for your thoughts to get into sailing trim and run a course or two before they make their port…Our sentences (want) room to unfold.”
Henry David Thoreau, Walden, Chapter 6: Visitors
The fluid line of the furniture was built almost exactly as it was first sketched by Jesse Gries with pencil on paper. It was built by and photographed by our long-time collaborator in all things wood, Amalesh Krien.
